Types of dieting: weight gain and weight loss

Dieting is eating food in a regulated way for the purpose of achieving targeted weight. The introduction of this concept came in as a fad for many elite group to have the desired weight or to become physically attractive. However, as health and well-being become the primary concern of most people, dieting becomes an essential in the way of life.

Wikipedia defines dieting as:

"the practice of ingesting food in a regulated fashion to achieve or maintain a controlled weight. In most cases the goal is weight loss in those who are overweight or obese, but some athletes aspire to gain weight (usually in the form of muscle) and diets can also be used to maintain a stable body weight."


There are two tpes of dieting, weight gain and weight loss. Weight-gain is practiced mostly by those who are recovering from anorexia nervosa or starvation while there are also some athletes who may practice weight- gain to increase body mass.

The most popular is weight loss among the two types of dieting. Weight loss has been a goal by many to achieve attractive body shape, yet the goal of weight loss is also popular to achieve good health or fight overweight problems.

There are several weight loss ideas that has becoming popular in the market. While weight loss providers claim that it can ne applied to everybody, it is true that personalized weight loss program should be the choice.

Each and everybody has different weight loss needs and health conditions. Therefore, there is no single rule to achieve desired weight whether for weight gain or weight loss.
